    OUTING DESCRIPTION:

    Edwin Warner Park Nature Center will provide us a place to explore nature and learn about nature in our area of TN. The Nature Center will have maps to explore the grounds and we will be able to explore their indoor exhibits.

    EDUCATIONAL CONNECTION:

    The trip to the Nature Center will allow us a chance to use our maps skills to explore the grounds with maps provided by the center. It will also allow us the opportunity to learn about nature in our local area and the chance to learn about what environments, animals, habitats, and resources we have right in our back yard.

    Come explore the Tennessee Safari Park! Tennessee Safari Park has become one of the mid-south's most popular destinations. With more than 1000 animals representing over 100 rare and endangered species, the Tennessee Safari Park demonstrates the importance of the preservation of wildlife though conservation and education.
    Come face to face with deer, antelope, wildebeest, ostrich, emu, bison (seasonally) and many more animals as you travel along our 2.5 mile drive thru safari.
    Explore different habitats of exotic birds, reptiles, amphibians and mammals in our walk thru zoo area.

    Cherokee Childhood
    Students experience life as Native American children of long ago by participating in games, stories and household chores from the past.  They collect natural objects to make a “medicine bag,” prepare food with stone tools, and visit a Cherokee Chief's cabin.

    Wildlife Wanderland Tour
    Students will tour the Wildlife Wanderland, Boardwalk, and Discovery Forest Treehouse.  Different animals will be seen throughout the tour.

    Optional Self-Guided Tour of 300 acre Arboretum
    You may explore the 300 acre Arboretum on your own without a guide.  There is a 3 mile driving/walking trail.

The parking garage has a $6 maximum parking charge. The parking garage is cash only. You may also chose to park at the Visitor’s Center and ride the trolley. The Aquarium does not have its own parking lot.

    Pizza is not only a favorite food of many but it can also be used for mathematical demonstrations.  Pizza is normally cut into slices, this is a great way to either introduce or review parts, wholes, and fractions.     The TN State Museum is a free museum that will give us the chance to see permanent exhibits, traveling exhibits, and the opportunity to learn more about our state and about its history. Permanent exhibits include: First Tennesseans, Antebellum, Frontier, Civil War Reconstruction, Age of Jackson, and the New South. There will also be a chance to visit the Military Branch Museum and the traveling exhibits which we will update closer to the date of our outing.

    It’s the end of the school year, what’s May without a FIELD DAY!!! WJ Freeman Park is very family friendly .There is a walking trail as well as acres of field to hold events.  Like last year, games and activities will be provided for students to participate in.  So come and join us at our final outing of the year.

    We will do a walking tour of Cannonsburgh, the original name for Murfreesboro. Cannonsburg is a reconstructed Southern village with a gristmill, one-room schoolhouse, town hall, log home, church, general store, and a working blacksmith's shop that serve as reminders of life in pioneer times. After the walking tour,  we will come together to see Mr. Bond the Science Guy conduct some hands-on science experiments.

    OUTING DESCRIPTION:

    Come celebrate the end of the school year with the Chattanooga area TNVA crew!  Bring a picnic lunch and meet us on the lawn in the park. Be sure to bring a bathing suit if you plan to also play in the water fountains.

    Coolidge Park, located on the Chattanooga’s North Shore, is one place where you can overlook the beautiful Tennessee River, play in an interactive water fountain, stroll across the world’s largest pedestrian bridge-the Walnut Street Bridge, test your skills at rock climbing, picnic with your family in plenty of open green spaces, admire a military memorial and even ride a tiger on the 100-year old restored antique carousel. Coolidge Park is adjacent to local entertainment, art galleries, shops, and restaurants and serves as a venue for numerous concerts, festivals and special events. It is also part of the Tennessee Riverwalk, a 15-mile long public greenway that runs along the Tennessee River – from the Southern Belle Riverboat to Chickamauga Dam. In 2006 The Peace Grove was added to Coolidge Park. It is a circular landscape of trees planted to represent each of Chattanooga’s Sister Cities and celebrate the city’s global friendships around the world.

    This outing is for all grade levels. We will be going on a fully guided tour of a lighted, developed area of Cumberland Caverns where the students will learn about the fascinating geology, unique history and wildlife that inhabits the cave. We will also be eating a picnic lunch in the Volcano Room of the cave. After our tour, students will each receive a bag of gems and minerals. Students will go to the fossil and gem mining sluice to find what is hidden in their bag.

    Our tour time is 10:00 CST. We need everyone to arrive by 9:30 CST to allow time to sign in, collect payments, and gather lunches so we can begin our tour on time.

    50-60 minute tour of the cavern

    15 minute walking time to and from cave
    30-60 minutes of panning for gems or fossils

    Cumberland Caverns offers unique educational programs designed to both excite and inform students about the wonders of the underground. Each program includes a fully guided tour of a lighted developed area of Cumberland Caverns where students will learn about the fascinating geology, unique history and wildlife that inhabits the cave.

    In order to receive the school discount prices, we must pay with one payment. Please plan to arrive no later than 9:30 CST with EXACT CHANGE (dollars and coins) ready. The teachers sponsoring the outing will collect the money and make the payment for the group. If you arrive late or after we make the payment for the group, you may not be able to go on the tour with us.

    • For your safety, PLEASE wear good walking shoes.
    • You will need to bring your own picnic lunch to this outing. The Cavern staff will collect our lunches before the tour and have them ready for us in the Volcano Room.

    We will be meeting for a picnic and to sign in at 11am CST.
    At 12pm CST we will start our guided tour of the Nature Station. You'll find a variety of natural experiences-from the indoor discovery center to the live wildlife of Backyard exhibits.
    The tour will last roughly 2 hours.
